“Sometimes, I think of the sun and moon as lovers who rarely meet, always chase, and almost always miss one another. But once in a while, they do catch up and they kiss, and the world stares in awe of their eclipse.”
On October 2, 2024, at 2:49 PM ET, we have an annular solar eclipse at 10º Libra, which is the final eclipse in Libra we'll experience for the next nine years.
Hi! Grateful you’re here <3 Please consider turning the heart button red. This is a free and easy way to support my work.
This series of eclipses began back in 2023 and continues into 2025, forming part of a larger cycle that started between 2013 and 2016, serving as a culmination of themes from that period.
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, casting a shadow that partially or fully blocks the Sun’s light in some areas.
This happens during a New Moon, when the Sun and Moon conjoin near one of the Moon's Nodes.
As the Nodes move through a pair of signs over approximately 18 months, eclipses take place in the houses of our chart that correspond to those signs.
Since the nodal shift to the North Node in Aries and the South Node in Libra in July 2023, the collective has been urged to embrace their identity with confidence, relinquish fears related to conflict and confrontation, and be prepared to walk their own path if necessary—all while letting go of the need for external validation.
With the South Node in Libra, we’ve been invited to reflect on past patterns, particularly in relationships and the pursuit of harmony with others. This shift has encouraged the release of tendencies toward co-dependency and excessive compromise, fostering a renewed sense of self-reliance and independence.
The Nodes will stay in Aries and Libra until January 11, 2025, and on March 29, we will have our final solar eclipse in Aries until 2033.
Eclipses are considered the wild cards of astrology. They can act as portals for change, transformation, and soul growth.
They often provide opportunities for realignment, course correction, and clearing.
In Astrologer Dane Rudhyar’s view, at a new moon solar eclipse, the present becomes overshadowed by the past.
He saw it as a moment when the past and present intersect, offering an opportunity to gain important insights, address them, and move forward with awareness.
Give yourself time (and grace) between here and there.
The solar eclipse in Libra on October 2 takes place in the second decan of Libra, which is double-ruled by Saturn and where Libra finds its exaltation.
This decan contains themes of time, investments, commitments, contracts, compromise, the act of enduring, and living good.
Susan Chang calls it ‘Ties That Bind,’ capturing the essence of Libra’s relational nature under Venus’ rulership.
It’s no secret that the way we spend our time is intrinsically linked to our energy, reflecting our investments and commitments.
While Saturn seeks commitment through adversity, he also urges us to be discerning about where we invest our time.
Time = currency [we must spend/invest it wisely].
It then becomes essential to evaluate how and where we place our energy, especially when it comes to our most intimate relationships.
Here we see the same theme of justice from Libra Decan I reemerging in this face.
Who and what have you been investing your energy in, and who or what are you being called to divest your energy from?
This eclipse is the beginning of an end.
The New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra will square off with Mars, while Venus—the ruler of this eclipse—forms a grand water trine with the malefics Mars and Saturn, severing ties to relationships to make way for renewal, justice, or the creation of new ones for the sake of true harmony as the foundation.
To determine what themes the solar eclipse in Libra will activate for you, look at the houses Aries/Libra occupy in your chart.
